like a dream

In Indonesia, the word Semimpi suggests something ‘like a dream’. This is the name of the hotel we’ve been living at since arriving in the fall of 2019. As the clock counts down our last moments in this place, I search for words to describe my experience here, but they’re elusive; floating at the edges of my consciousness, escaping my grasp à la Peter Pan’s shadow, indecipherable like a dream reflected upon at dawn.
